Yandex director expects decrease in investments in Internet projects
General director of Yandex Arkady Volozh has announced some results of his
company's work this year and plans for future. According to Mr. Volozh,
currently Yandex, like many other Russian Internet projects, is
unprofitable. Monthly expenses exceed $150,000, while incomes usually only
amount to $50,000-$70,000. However, if the Internet continues to grow at
today's rate, in a couple of years Yandex may start to generate some profit.
For the past year, the number of visitors to Yandex resources doubled. Mr.
Volozh also assumes that Internet-oriented companies in Russia may have to
reconsider their financial policies as the fall of Nasdaq may result in a
decrease in Internet investments in Russia.
